STEAM in Sutton: From Local Pilot to Multi-Council Success
What started as a local STEAM activity book for Sutton evolved into a scalable programme now used by multiple councils — helping children discover science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths through hands-on, curiosity-led learning.
“We wanted to make STEAM learning more engaging, accessible, and exciting for children and families.”
What we handled:
Sutton wanted a creative and accessible way to engage children with STEAM subjects outside of traditional classroom settings. The challenge was creating something educational while still feeling exciting, interactive, and inclusive for a wide range of ages and abilities.
Extended learning:
The resource needed to encourage participation, independent learning, and family involvement — while remaining practical for large-scale council distribution.
The Challenge
The Wonder Tool
What we created:
- Interactive STEAM activity books with challenges, experiments, and puzzles
- Hands-on STEAM activity boxes and bags
- Family-friendly activities that spark creativity and curiosity
- Accessible STEAM learning for different ages and abilities
- Creative problem-solving tasks that make learning fun
Why it works:
We transformed traditional STEAM learning into something hands-on, creative, and accessible - creating experiences that children genuinely enjoy while helping councils deliver meaningful educational engagement at scale.
The Outcome
The programme transformed STEAM learning into something fun, hands-on, and accessible for children and families.
Following its success in Sutton, the concept expanded into multiple councils with the addition of STEAM activity boxes and bags to deepen engagement beyond the page.
Children were encouraged to:
- Explore creativity and curiosity
- Build confidence in STEAM subjects
- Learn through hands-on activities
- Continue learning at home with families
The programme continues to grow as councils look for engaging ways to inspire young learners.
